The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on 16 October 2026 named India's squads for the five-match One Day International (ODI) series in New Zealand, which starts in Auckland on 4 November. Shubman Gill leads the side for the first three matches and Shreyas Iyer for the last two, 19 days before the first match.

The captaincy split is part of the same release. Tilak Varma, Auqib Nabi, Kumar Kushagra and Yash Thakur are named only for the final two ODIs, while Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are not named in either ODI squad. The BCCI's Test squad includes neither.

Who Is In and Who Is Out

Each ODI list has 16 players, and 12 names appear on both, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. The first list, for matches one to three, adds Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Anshul Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna to the shared group. The second list, for matches four and five, adds Tilak Varma, Auqib Nabi, Kumar Kushagra and Yash Thakur.

Prasidh Krishna's selection is subject to fitness clearance, and he is the only name in either list marked that way. Rahul and Kamboj do not feature in the second list.

Kushagra and Ishan Kishan are the two wicketkeepers in the second list. Kishan is also in the first list, where he is joined by Rahul.

Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are not in either ODI list. Jasprit Bumrah is named in the Test squad but in neither ODI list.

Full first list: Shubman Gill (captain), Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav.

Full second list: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Ishan Kishan (vice-captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Kumar Kushagra, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Auqib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Yash Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav.

Captaincy and Vice-Captaincy

Gill leads the first three ODIs, with Iyer as vice-captain. From the fourth match, Iyer takes over as captain, with Ishan Kishan as vice-captain. The BCCI's squad lists name Gill as captain for the first three ODIs and Iyer for the fourth and fifth.

Under the split, Gill's block covers matches on 4, 7 and 10 November, and Iyer's covers 13 and 15 November. The BCCI's Test squad also names Gill as captain, in the same release.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in both ODI lists, so both are selected under each captain. Kishan is vice-captain only for the final two matches.

ODI Fixtures and Match Times

All five ODIs start at 7:30 am IST, according to the BCCI's list. The fixtures are Wednesday 4 November in Auckland, Saturday 7 November in Wellington, Tuesday 10 November in Hamilton, and Friday 13 November and Sunday 15 November in Mount Maunganui.

For readers in India, that is a Wednesday morning start for the opener. A 7:30 am IST start is 3:00 pm in New Zealand, where the matches are played.

Mount Maunganui hosts the last two matches of the series, and the change of captain comes there at the fourth match on 13 November.

Outlook India says the five ODIs follow a five-match T20I series.

Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are not named in either ODI list.

Test Squad and What Comes Next

The BCCI released the Test squad alongside the ODI lists, and Bumrah is named in it. The BCCI's Test fixtures give the two Tests as Wellington on 19 November and Christchurch on 27 November, both starting at 3:30 am IST.

As of 17 October 2026, the first ODI is 18 days away. As of 16 October, the BCCI list marked Prasidh Krishna's place as subject to fitness clearance.

The first ODI is at Auckland on Wednesday 4 November, and the series closes at Mount Maunganui on Sunday 15 November, as the BCCI list shows.
