Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, S. J. Suryah Join Jailer 2 Cast; Makers Deny Hindi Release Reports
Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and S. J. Suryah are among the newcomers in Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which opened on 15 October.

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 opened in theatres on 15 October 2026, in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Talk around the film since then has centred on a cast that adds several newcomers to a returning ensemble, and on reports about its Hindi release that the film's publicist has dismissed.
The pre-release guide from The Hollywood Reporter India describes Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer, and calls the first film a Tamil action drama. Its cast list also includes Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and S. J. Suryah, alongside returning actors such as Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff.
Who Plays What, as Pre-Release Coverage Describes It
The guide describes Vidya Balan as Kantha and S. J. Suryah as Bodhi Kalpak, whom it hints will be one of the film's main villains. Suraj Venjaramoodu is listed as Dileep, a primary antagonist, and Mithun Chakraborty is shown in a wheelchair.
Returning actors include Mirnaa as Swetha Pandian, Rithvik as Rithu Pandian and Yogi Babu as Vimal, a local taxi driver. Ramya Krishnan plays Vijaya Pandian, Muthuvel's wife, and Mohanlal returns as Matthew, an underworld figure and Muthuvel's trusted ally from his days as a jailer.
Shiva Rajkumar returns as Narasimha, described as Muthuvel's close companion, and Jackie Shroff returns as Kamdev, a gangster who was initially hired to kill Muthuvel and became one of his close allies in Jailer.
The guide also lists several further appearances: a surprise appearance by Apeksha Porwal, who is seen in the trailer, with no role described; a special dance number by Nora Fatehi that does not appear in the trailer; and cameos reported for Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi.
Mithun Chakraborty's Condition, as Rajinikanth Described It
Gulf News reports an account from Rajinikanth, given at a Jailer 2 Super Show. He said that when the production team approached Mithun Chakraborty, Mithun asked what role he would play, whether he would be the villain, and whether he would have to take a beating from Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. At the WAVES Summit, Mithun agreed to join on one condition: Rajinikanth's character would neither beat him nor shoot him.
Rajinikanth said he would check with the director, Nelson, before replying, and that at first he thought Mithun was making the demand casually. Gulf News relies on that account, and no response from Mithun Chakraborty to it has been reported. The reports do not settle whether his character is the main villain. The Hollywood Reporter India describes him as appearing in a wheelchair.
A Hindi Multiplex Report, and the Makers' Reply
On 12 October, Sacnilk reported that the Hindi version was set to miss screenings at PVR INOX and Cinepolis. The report links this to a reported four-week gap between the theatrical release and the streaming premiere. National chains generally expect eight weeks for Hindi films, Sacnilk says, and it notes that Vijay's Leo and Rajinikanth's Coolie faced similar Hindi restrictions after shorter windows. Sacnilk also says that the Hindi version could be limited mainly to single-screen theatres. Neither the makers nor the chains had publicly confirmed the exclusion.
The same day, the film's publicist issued a statement, as DT Next reports. It said the Hindi version would open in Hindi theatres on 15 October, alongside its other language versions, and that there had been no change to the planned Hindi release. The statement also dismissed reports that the film would not be released in the Hindi market.
Mithun Chakraborty agreed to join on one condition: Rajinikanth's character would neither beat him nor shoot him.
What Remains Unconfirmed
When Sacnilk published its report, it said an official clarification on the Hindi release strategy was still awaited, and a statement came on the same date. Several details are unconfirmed in the reporting: the size of the newcomers' roles, the reported cameos, whether Mithun Chakraborty has responded to Rajinikanth's account of their meeting, and whether PVR INOX and Cinepolis went on to screen the Hindi version.
The publicist's statement is the only response to the Hindi report in the coverage cited here. It is not a statement from PVR INOX or Cinepolis.
