Jailer 2 Opens at an Estimated ₹125.25 Crore; Streaming Deal Reported at ₹160 Crore
Jailer 2 opened with an estimated ₹125.25 crore worldwide on 15 October, while a reported ₹160 crore streaming deal sits behind the film.

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, opened in cinemas on 15 October 2026. Early figures from the film trade portal Sacnilk put its first-day worldwide gross at ₹125.25 crore, of which ₹70.25 crore came from India and ₹55 crore from overseas markets. Red Giant Movies distributes the film in Tamil Nadu, Sithara Entertainments in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Pen Marudhar in North India, according to Wikipedia.
The film's income comes from several places at once: tickets sold in its Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions, overseas cinemas, and streaming rights reported as sold before release. The opening figures are early trade estimates, and the rights prices come from trade reports.
How the opening compares with Coolie, Jana Nayagan and the first Jailer
Jailer 2 is the second-largest worldwide opening of Rajinikanth's career, behind Coolie, which opened at ₹151.10 crore worldwide, according to The Week. The sequel's day-one total is about ₹26 crore short of that figure.
The domestic comparison with another recent Tamil release is more direct. BusinessToday reports that Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan opened with ₹42.70 crore domestic net and ₹77.78 crore worldwide. Jailer 2's domestic net of ₹59.70 crore is about ₹17 crore higher, and its worldwide gross is about ₹47 crore higher.
The Week and BusinessToday put its opening day at ₹48.35 crore domestic net and ₹96.36 crore worldwide. On those figures, the sequel is up about 23.5% on domestic net and about 30% on worldwide gross.
Where the domestic net came from: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada
Of the ₹59.70 crore domestic net, ₹43.35 crore came from Tamil shows, ₹12.50 crore from Telugu shows, ₹3.50 crore from Hindi shows and ₹35 lakh from Kannada shows, according to Sacnilk data reported by The Week. That is about 73%, 21%, 6% and under 1% of the domestic total, respectively.
The number of shows behind each figure varies widely. The tracker counts 9,326 Tamil shows, 2,792 Telugu shows, 4,371 Hindi shows and 110 Kannada shows, 16,599 in all. Working from the reported totals, an average Tamil show took in roughly ₹46,000 net on day one, a Telugu show roughly ₹45,000 and a Hindi show roughly ₹8,000.
The language split is on a net basis, while the ₹55 crore overseas figure is gross. The domestic gross for the day was ₹70.25 crore.
Overseas markets and the Hindi release question
Overseas markets brought in ₹55 crore on day one, a little under half of the ₹125.25 crore worldwide gross. BusinessToday reports, citing its overseas distributor Shloka Entertainments, that North America crossed million on the opening day.
The Hindi version is the least settled part of the release. The Week reported on 12 October that major North Indian chains, including PVR INOX and Cinepolis, generally follow an eight-week theatrical window for Hindi films. It said the producers had reportedly secured a four-week window with their streaming partner, and that major multiplex chains may not screen the Hindi-dubbed version. Official confirmation was still awaited.
Binged reports that the makers chose to skip a Hindi theatrical run, and it puts the first film's Hindi theatrical earnings at ₹7.24 crore. The day-one count does not match that account. Sacnilk lists ₹3.50 crore from 4,371 Hindi shows on opening day, and Wikipedia says the Hindi version was released only in a limited number of single-screen theatres across North India.
Streaming rights reported before release, and satellite plans
Sacnilk, citing an exclusive report by Lets Cinema, says Amazon Prime Video acquired Jailer 2's post-theatrical streaming rights for ₹160 crore. The first film reportedly sold to the same platform for about ₹75 crore, a rise of 113%. Sacnilk also cites Coolie and Leo at ₹120 crore each and Thug Life at ₹110 crore.
A reported ₹160 crore streaming price is higher than the film's first-day worldwide gross of ₹125.25 crore.
For satellite, Sacnilk says the Tamil rights are expected to stay with Sun TV, and that Hindi and international dubbed rights are to be packaged separately. Wikipedia records that the first film's Sun TV premiere came on 12 November 2023, about three months after its August release, and lists Amazon Prime Video and Sun NXT as its streaming partners.
The reported window is four weeks from release. Counted from 15 October, that would put the streaming start on 12 November.
A reported ₹160 crore streaming price is higher than the film's first-day worldwide gross of ₹125.25 crore.
The first film's rights and distribution, for comparison
Wikipedia gives the first Jailer a budget of ₹200 crore to ₹220 crore and a worldwide gross of between ₹605 crore and ₹650 crore, depending on the outlet. Its theatrical distribution was sold region by region. Tamil Nadu rights were listed at ₹60 crore, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at ₹12 crore, Karnataka at ₹10 crore and Kerala at ₹5.5 crore.
Against those totals, the reported streaming price of about ₹75 crore is roughly an eighth of the film's gross. The sequel's reported streaming price is more than twice that figure, and its day-one tracker numbers run ahead of the first film's on domestic net and worldwide gross.
What the early numbers do not yet settle
Final collections for Jailer 2 have not been reported. The Hindi theatrical plan has not been confirmed, and the reports disagree on whether Hindi screenings ran on opening day. The rights prices come from trade reports, and the satellite arrangement is described as expected rather than settled.
The full-run totals will show whether the opening lead over the first film holds in each language and in overseas markets.
