Ramayana Plans 59,000 Screens for a Diwali Week Shared With Tamil Films

The Hindi epic Ramayana is planned on about 59,000 screens for Diwali week, when three named Tamil films also open, with some release dates reported differently.

Diwali falls on 8 November this year, and the festive week will bring a large Hindi release into the same few days as three named Tamil films. Ramayana Part 1, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is planned for a worldwide release with a target of about 59,000 screens.

Several details of the Hindi film differ between published reports, including its release dates, budget and producers. The three named Tamil releases are listed for 5 and 6 November, the same days as the Hindi film's premiere shows and overseas opening, which falls before Diwali on 8 November.

Release Dates Differ Across the Reports

The release-details page for the film gives 8 November as the Indian release date and 6 November for international markets, with premiere shows starting on 5 November. Outlook India reports a worldwide release on 6 November. The DT Next listing of Deepavali films gives 5 November for the Hindi film.

Overseas audiences would see the film two days before Indian audiences. On the release-details page, the premiere shows start on 5 November, a date the Tamil listing also gives for its releases.

Both reports give Diwali 2027 for Part 2, which would place the second instalment a year after the first. The reports do not agree on one Indian opening date.

A 59,000-Screen Plan Built Mostly Overseas

Outlook India reported in August that the film was targeting 59,000 screens globally. Citing the industry tracker Sacnilk, it said more than 50,000 of those screens are planned overseas and about 9,000 are expected in India. The figure is a target.

The release-details page splits distribution by market. Dharma Productions is named for India and Sony Pictures Entertainment for worldwide release. Outlook India also names Sony Pictures as the international distributor, so the two reports agree on that part of the plan.

Budget Figures Depend on Whether Both Parts Are Counted

The release-details page puts Part 1 at an estimated ₹835 crore and both parts at about ₹4,000 crore (0 million), though another line on the page gives ₹4,175 crore for the same 0 million. Outlook India gives ₹4,000 crore without separating the two parts.

The ₹835 crore figure covers Part 1 alone; the release-details page's ₹4,000 crore covers both parts, and Outlook India does not split its figure.

Producer credits also differ. Outlook India lists DNEG as a co-producer alongside Prime Focus Studios and Yash's Monster Mind Creations. The release-details page names Prime Focus Studios, which it links to Namit Malhotra, and Monster Mind Creations as producers, with DNEG credited for VFX.

The same page credits Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman with the music, and describes their work together as their first collaboration on an Indian production.

Cast Pairs Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi With Yash as Ravana

Both reports credit Ranbir Kapoor with Lord Ram and Parashurama, and Sai Pallavi plays Devi Sita. Yash plays Ravana. The release-details page adds Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Anil Kapoor as Janak, Arun Govil as Dasharath and Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra.

Outlook India lists further cast members, including Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh and Vivek Oberoi. Nitesh Tiwari, who directs, is known on the release-details page for Dangal and Chhichhore.

Yash plays Ravana, and his company, Monster Mind Creations, is one of the producers. The same person therefore appears as Ravana and in the production credits.

Of that target, more than 50,000 screens are planned overseas and about 9,000 are expected in India.

Three Named Tamil Releases Are Set for 5 and 6 November

DT Next's listing gives 5 and 6 November for the Tamil films, naming three: Mookuthi Amman 2, Appa Kutty and Moon Walk. Those are the same two days on which the Hindi film begins its premiere shows and opens overseas, so the Tamil and Hindi releases open in the same stretch.

Mookuthi Amman 2 stars Nayanthara and is directed by Sundar C. The listing says it is also set to release in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, apart from Tamil.

Appa Kutty, directed by M. Maran, is Vijay Antony's film and focuses on the relationship between a father and his daughter. Moon Walk, directed by Manoj Nirmala Sridharan, is Prabhudheva's film, and the listing describes it as reuniting Prabhudheva with A. R. Rahman after nearly 25 years. Rahman is also one of the two composers on Ramayana Part 1.

What One Holiday-Period Release Shows About Early Daily Drops

Box Office India's day-wise report on Thamma, published on 25 October 2025, gives approximate nett collections of about ₹23 crore on the opening day, ₹18 crore on the second, ₹12 crore on the third and ₹9.50 crore on the fourth. The cumulative total is about ₹62.50 crore.

The report presents every figure as approximate. The second day is about 22 per cent below the opening day, the third about a third below the second, and the fourth about 20 to 21 per cent below the third. The fourth-day collection is roughly 41 per cent of the opening figure.

The report says a holiday factor leaves some areas with higher collections than they should be, and it describes the figures as approximate.

No box office figures for the named Tamil releases or the Hindi epic are available yet, and the Indian release date is still reported in more than one version.

The figures to watch are the nett opening totals in India for each film, the overseas numbers for the Hindi epic, and whether the Tamil films hold their daily totals through the first weekend.
