Netflix Sets 30 October 2026 Premiere for YRF's Akka, Starring Keerthy Suresh, Radhika Apte
Netflix's Akka, a 1980s gangster series from YRF Entertainment, premieres on 30 October 2026, with Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in the leads.

Netflix will premiere Akka on 30 October 2026. The 1980s gangster series is produced by YRF Entertainment, the streaming division of Yash Raj Films, and stars Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte. Netflix announced the date on 17 October 2026 with a new teaser, according to PTI's report of the same day.
The series sits alongside a wider arrangement. On 1 November 2025, Netflix and Yash Raj Films announced a partnership that brings a curated run of the studio's films to the platform in phases. Akka is not named in that announcement, so the announcement does not link the series to the library deal. The sections below set out what is known about each.
A Date Announced With a Teaser on the Lead's Birthday
PTI reported that Netflix announced the premiere date and unveiled the teaser on Saturday, 17 October 2026. The date and the teaser came out together on Keerthy Suresh's birthday. ThePrint's copy of the PTI report says it was her 34th.
The premiere falls thirteen days after the announcement, on Friday, 30 October 2026. The reporting does not give a premiere time in Indian Standard Time, and it does not state an episode count or runtime.
The reporting describes the series as a 1980s gangster drama with Suresh and Apte in the leads, and the teaser is the only new promotional material reported with the date.
From the 2025 Teaser to the October 2026 Date
The Week reports that Netflix first revealed the show on 3 February 2025, as part of its Next on Netflix India announcement. ThePrint's account of the premiere does not mention that earlier reveal.
The Week describes a wait of about a year after the 2025 first-look teaser. Counted from the February 2025 reveal to the 30 October 2026 premiere, the gap is about 20 months. The two descriptions measure the wait differently, and the reporting does not give a reason for the delay.
Both reports say the new teaser came with the premiere date.
What the November 2025 Library Deal Covers
Netflix announced its partnership with Yash Raj Films on 1 November 2025. The announcement says a curated selection of YRF films will come to Netflix in phases, to celebrate special occasions, festivals and beloved cinematic moments, and that the films are offered to fans worldwide. It gives no licence length and no financial terms.
Akshaye Widhani, chief executive of Yash Raj Films, said in the announcement that the studio has shaped Indian cinema for more than 50 years and that it is proud to bring its library to Netflix. Monika Shergill, vice president of content at Netflix India, called the partnership a milestone for Indian cinema on Netflix. She said it brings together YRF's rich heritage and Netflix's unparalleled reach.
The announcement does not mention Akka. It cites The Romantics, a Netflix docu-series that Shergill describes as an intimate glimpse into YRF's legacy, as an earlier Netflix project.
Phased Releases Built Around Dates
The library phases ran from 1 November 2025 to 7 February 2026, according to the schedule in the announcement. Nine Shah Rukh Khan films were scheduled for 1 November, timed to his birthday weekend. The named titles include Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein, Dil To Pagal Hai, Veer-Zaara and Chak De India.
Classic YRF titles, including Chandni, Kabhi Kabhie, Vijay, Lamhe and Silsila, followed on 14 November, with no total count given. The Dhoom trilogy was scheduled for 28 November, and five Ranveer Singh films for 5 December. Those five are Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Kill Dil, Befikre and Gunday.
Between 12 and 28 December, 34 films were scheduled across the holiday season, two a day. Three Salman Khan films were set for 27 December, timed to his birthday. The Mardaani series came on 22 January 2026 with no title count given, and an eight-film Valentine's week collection followed on 7 February.
Where the schedule gives counts, the films add up to at least 62 titles, counting the Dhoom trilogy as three. The classic YRF titles and the Mardaani series are not included in that figure. Netflix ties several batches to a star's birthday, a holiday stretch or a romance week. Akka's premiere date was also announced on its lead actor's birthday.
The date and the teaser came out together on Keerthy Suresh's birthday.
Cast, Creators and the Pernuru Setting
Keerthy Suresh plays Bhavani and Radhika Apte plays Rudra, the two women whose differing perspectives and rivalries shape the power dynamics of the story. Tanvi Azmi is also in the cast, and no role for her is given in the reporting. The supporting cast listed by The Week includes Poornima Indrajith, Vishak Nair, Dinesh Prabhakar, Karthika Muraleedharan, Pooja Mohanraj and Urmila Krishnan.
ThePrint reports that Akka is Suresh's first Netflix series. Her earlier films listed in that report include Nenu Sailaja, Rajinimurugan, Sarkar, Penguin, Dasara and Baby John. Apte's earlier Netflix work includes Sacred Games, Ghoul, Lust Stories and Raat Akeli Hai. ThePrint says Apte described Rudra as driven by her convictions and by an instinct to challenge the world around her.
Dharmaraj Shetty wrote and directed the series, his first project as a filmmaker. YRF Entertainment produced it, with Aditya Chopra, Yogendra Mogre and Akshaye Widhani credited as executive producers. The Week calls it YRF's biggest streaming project so far.
The series is set in Pernuru, a fictional South Indian place in the 1980s. The Week calls Pernuru a city ruled and protected by women, while ThePrint calls it a kingdom shaped by generations of women. The Week adds that an outsider's arrival threatens the women's control of the city.
What Is Still Unannounced
The reporting gives no premiere time, episode count or runtime. It does not state any audio languages for the series.
The reporting does not state the territories where Akka will stream. The November 2025 partnership describes its films as offered to fans worldwide, but no report applies that wording to Akka.
The Akka details above come from press reports of the 17 October 2026 announcement, and the library details come from Netflix's 1 November 2025 announcement. The 30 October 2026 premiere date is the only launch date the reporting gives for Akka.
