VEG EMPTY SALNA RECIPE

A popular dish on the south side is empty salna. The combo tastes great with parotta, idiyappam, appam, idli, and dosa. I usually make this salna for paratta or chapathi, but I had the idea to make it for idiyappam all of a sudden. The stew we used to serve for idiyappam became boring to my family, so I came up with this dish. It went perfectly with idiyappam. The flavor was fantastic. My kids adored it a lot. Like a hotel salna, the flavor and texture were excellent.

Here, I’ve added some simple ingredients that you can find in the pantry. . In order to get an amazing flavor in this recipe, we must simmer the burner and cook for a longer period of time. Carrots, beans, cauliflower, and potatoes are some veggies you can include, but you can also add any other. The flavor will be fantastic. I used a pressure cooker to prepare this recipe. It can also be prepared in an ordinary kadai.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 onions
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4cup grated coconut
  • 2tsp fennel seeds
  • 5-6 cashew
  • 1/2tsp turmeric powder
  • 2tsp chilli powder
  • 2tsp coriander powder
  • 1tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required
  • Few curry leaves

How to make empty salna recipe

  1. First heat oil in pressure cooker. Add Kalpasi, bay leaf and saute for a mins.
  2. Add onion and cook for few mins.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and mix well.
  4. After ginger garlic paste raw smell goes add tomatoes and cook well.
  5. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala and coriander masala powder. Mix well
  6. Take a mixy jar and add coconut, cashew and fennel seeds. Add little water and grind it to smooth paste.
  7. Add this coconut paste and mix well.
  8. Add salt and cook for a min.
  9. Now pour water and mix well. Adjust the consistence by adding water.
  10. Add curry leaves.
  11. Close the cooker lid and pressure cook for 1 whistle.
  12. After pressure goes, open the lid
  13. Empty salna is ready to serve.

  • 1 Pressure Cooker
  • 1 Mixy jar

Ingredients

  • 5-6 cashew
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 ,2 Kalpasi
  • few curry leaves

Instructions
 

  • First heat oil in pressure cooker. Add Kalpasi, bay leaf and saute for a mins.
  • Add onion and saute for few mins until raw smell goes.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and mix well.
  • After ginger garlic paste raw smell goes add tomatoes and cook well.
  • Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala and coriander masala powder. Mix well
  • Take a mixy jar and add coconut, cashew and fennel seeds. Add little water and grind it to smooth paste.
  • Add this coconut paste and mix well.
  • Add salt and cook for a min.
  • Now pour water and mix well. Adjust the consistence by adding water.
  • Now finally add curry leaves.
  • Close the cooker lid and pressure cook for 1 whistle.
  • Open the lid when pressure goes.
  • Empty salna is ready to serve.

Notes

  • You can use a regular kadai instead of a pressure cooker if you like.
  • You can substitute poppy seeds for the cashews.
  • In order to get an excellent aroma, simmer the burner for a longer period of time.

Step by Step Pictures

After ginger garlic paste raw smell goes add tomatoes and cook well.

Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala and coriander masala powder. Mix well

Take a mixy jar and add coconut, cashews, fennel seeds and little water, grind it to smooth paste

Add coconut paste and mix well.

Add salt to taste

Now pour water and mix well. Adjust the consistence by adding water.

Add curry leaves

Close the cooker lid and pressure cook for 1 whistle.

Open the lid when pressure goes.

Empty salna is ready to serve with idiyappam
